Event

Ethiopian protesters demonstrating against recent power outages and a lack of local infrastructure burned a Chinese-owned chipwood factory and associated vehicles on 8 November in Minjar Shenkora district, North Shewa zone, in the southeast of Amhara region, approximately 70 kilometres east of Addis Ababa, the capital. The protests also reportedly involved anti-government chanting, and continued on 9 November in the town of Arerti. On 11 November, the Ethiopian government announced a nationwide protest ban.

The North Shewa zone was comparatively less affected by the anti-government protests that took place in northern Amhara predominantly in the Gondar zones and in the city of Bahir Dar (West Gojjam zone) from July to October 2016.
