The meeting focused on pushing forward the joint African cooperation and also the disputed massive dam Ethiopia is building on the Nile.
English ahram || Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with ambassadors of African countries in Cairo on Thursday to push forward joint African cooperation, said Egypt’s FM Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.
Shoukry stressed on the state’s commitment to pursue efforts to promote joint cooperation with African nations.
He added that Egypt’s endeavours stem from the solid persuasion that African countries have the ability to work together to overcome the challenges the continent faces to achieve peace and prosperity.
The meeting dealt with the exerted efforts and achievements during Egypt’s presidency of the African Union, Hafez said.
The minster pointed out to the role of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) in building African cadres.
The spokesman noted that Shoukry also posted the ambassadors on the latest developments concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), and the serious and sincere efforts made by Egypt in this regard to bring about a fair and balanced agreement that meets the interests of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
Earlier on Wednesday, Shoukry called on Arab countries during an Arab League meeting to support Cairo in reaching a final deal with Ethiopia over the $4.8 Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Tensions escalated between the two nations over the past week after Addis Ababa withdrew from the latest round of US-sponsored discussions aimed to resolve the dispute, and pledged to start filling the dam before reaching a final deal with downstream countries Egypt and Sudan.
