Today Ethiopia lost one of its greatest saint sons and a true patriot, Prof. Mesfin Woldemariam.

We the people of Ethiopia have lost extremely devoted family man and loving father, human dignity defender, justice seeker, freedom protector, peace maker, human rights educator, genuine national unity preacher, brilliant teacher, gifted writer and excellent orator.

I am deeply pained and words are of no help in expressing the sorrow I feel at this moment.

I lost my mentor, my role model, my senior advisor, my wise elder and my close friend. The greatest man who lived his life for others.

Gashe Mesfin has lived his life in service to Ethiopians and has been a warrior for human rights, justice, freedom, peace, reconciliation, equality and an avatar of personal sacrifice.

He was a true patriot who lived his life for others and fought great fight to free his country from all kinds of enemies domestic and foreign.

Gashe Mesfin devoted his entire life in the service of Ethiopians and such personalities never die because it will lives within the people.

As they said:”Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile” He lived his life defending the rights of Ethiopians and protecting Ethiopia.

Gashe Mesfin lived out ኢትዬጽያዊነት (Ethiopiawinet) or Ethiopianess. A genuine patriot is necessarily and invariably a lover of the people and the true lover of his/her country is always ready to communicate his/her hopes and fears.

Patriotism means never losing faith in your people and country and Gashe Mesfin never lost faith in Ethiopia and the Ethiopian people until he took his last breath last night. He know that the ideals that Ethiopia was founded on hold true and he stood by them.

His dream of free, united Ethiopia where justice, freedom, equality, opportunity and prosperity available to all Ethiopian citizens not only one ethnic group or few individuals will lives on in us!

In his death, not only Ethiopians but also none Ethiopian throughout the world are among the countless others who will mourn the loss of a great friend and advocate of justice, love and respect for all people! He stood up for the Ethiopians in their time of great needs.

As is true of great man of faith, passion and calling, his impact on Ethiopia, Africa and the world will carries on and will not die at his passing. He has touched and inspired many and once again I am one of them.

I am honored and blessed to have known Gashe Mesfin. He was truly a blessing in my life and I will miss him greatly.

A beautiful soul, full of love and faith, ascended to heaven, away from us Ethiopian but closer to God, leaving loneliness and sadness in this divided Ethiopia of ethnic federalism (tribalism) and ethnic extremism.

Yes a gentle soul ascended to heaven, leaving behind a lot of pain and anger. We the people of Ethiopia say goodbye to our elder and mentor.

Finally I would like to offer my deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace!
